Country has
around 7,200 clusters operating in traditional handloom, handicrafts and small
and medium enterprise (SME) sectors, the minister of state for Commerce and
Industry, Jyotiraditya M.Scindia said on Wednesday. In a written reply to
Rajya Sabha, M.Scindia further said that out of these 7200, as many as 2500
are unmapped rural industry clusters. The government introduced cluster
development programmes in order to popularise the use of modern technology
among enterprises. Among the programmes are Micro and Small Enterprise Cluster
Development Programme (MSECDP) and Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of
Traditional Industries (SFURTI) of Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium
Enterprises.
