India @ the Micromax company's manufacturing unit in Haridwar

Smart Mobile phone maker Company Micromax today forayed into the burgeoning tablet Information Technology sector Personal Computer market with its 'FunBook' priced @ Rs 6,499. Micromax Tablet, targetted specially at the education for Training and tutorial sector, Device will be manufactured in India @ the Micromax company's manufacturing unit in Haridwar. "We have a manufacturing capacity of 1 lakh Tablet units per month and we are already looking at increasing that Unites number. That should give an idea to the kind of numbers we are looking @ for the device," Micromax Company CEO Mr.Deepak Mehrotra told reporters here. The Micromax Smart Mobile Phone Manufacturing company would also undertake 360 degree marketing campaign in Education and Training Institute for the product, which would see Micromax Company making "significant" investments in, Mr.Deepak Mehrotra said without divulging further details. The 7” inch FunBook is based on the google Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich platform and has a 1.22 GHz smart processor, 0.3 megapixel Video Graphics Arrayfront camera, 4 gigabyte internal memory, expandable upto 32 gigabyte. The Micromax company has partnered with Pearson and Everonn to make educational and training Institute content available on the mobile tablet Personal Computer.

"End Users need to just pay Amount of Rs 799 for educational content of a particular class or training institute and they can get access to the multimedia content from Micromax Company partners," Mr.Deepak Mehrotra said adding that the partners would also help in taking the device to various educational and training institutions. Micromax has joined Information Technology companies like HCL Info systems and WishTel, which have launched tablet Personal Computer, targetted at the education and Training Institute sector. Following the government's low-cost Aakash tablet device, these companies are tying up with educational organizations to deliver multimedia content to students. The project will require the selected institutions to implement academic, training institute and non-academic reforms focusing on quality, excellence, resource mobilisation, greater institutional autonomy with accountability, research and equity. All selected institutions and training Institute should be authorised to apply for academic autonomy, the official said. About the funding pattern, Mr.Deepak Mehrotra said for strengthening institutions to improve learning outcomes and employability of graduates, the Centre will provide a grant of 60 per cent while the state and the institute will bear 20 per cent each.

On the other hand, for pedagogical training to faculty for effective teaching and for improving system management in sector, the project cost will be shared between the central government of INDIA and state governments in the ratioof 75:25. Monitoring of these institutes will be one of the hall marks of the project and will be based on the action plans prepared by each training institution. While the state governments will also monitor the performance, the Centre and the World Bank will conduct bi-annual joint reviews of the project with assistance from the National Project Implementation Unit, the official said.
